Success By 6

Q.  What is Success By 6

Success By 6 is an initiative dedicated to ensuring that children ages 0 to 6 have access to programs that support their healthy growth and development.  Success By 6 builds community through engaging citizens in early childhood development and funding programs that include literacy, nutrition, children’s play, parenting and family skills development.

Q.  Why Success By 6

Research shows that the most critical period of a child’s development is from birth to 6.  If children get the physical, social and emotional support they need, they are less likely to drop out of school, abuse drugs or have health problems, they are more ready to succeed in school and the results can be tremendous.

Q.  What is the structure of the Success By 6 Initiatives?

Each initiative has a Council of Partners that includes representatives of United Way, local credit unions, the Ministry of Children and Families, as well as health, education, business, labour, local government, families, community groups, service providers, Aboriginal leaders and others.  To address the diversity of needs and issues within the large geographical areas of each initiative, community tables help to advise the Council of Partners.  Each Success By 6 initiative also has a part-time coordinator.  New members of the community are most welcome to join this unique partnership.  For more information contact Cindy Lise at 250- 748-5866.
